Ghosts & Spirits Tarot- The Moon

This rendition of The Moon features the journey of Aeneus to the Underworld from Greek mythology.  This was a necessary journey for Aeneus and where his true destiny, to found Rome, was revealed, but it was by no means an easy walk in the park.  On this trip, Aeneus witnessed both the great horror of spirit suffering in the Underworld, as well as the great reward of those who earned a less tragic fate.  His discernment was refined and tested during this trip, and he emerged a strong leader, ready to meet his fate, but only after learning to trust his deepest self.

It takes great bravery to face that which we most fear, and in fairy tale after fairy tale, we see the heroes having to do exactly that.  This is because what we fear is what we must come to terms with, in our own psyche.  For me, one of my great fears is losing my family, and this has in fact happened to me at different times in my life.  One of my lessons to learn has been that I carry my own strength within me, and that nothing that truly matters can be stripped from me.  Because this fear goes soul deep for me, I have had to, and continue to, learn to lean on my own understanding and inner joy, and to always trust my own deepest feelings above anything I think to be true, because my thoughts have been wrong at times, but my feelings never have.

I find this a beautiful and apt rendition of The Moon, despite there being no physical Moon in the card, because The Moon often asks us to walk down dark pathways in blind faith, and while we do so we may see glimmering eyes in the distance, hear scrabbling noises, but still we must continue forward, because the way back is barred, and to stay in the nightmare is even more unimaginable than to continue through it.
