Daily Draw - Five of Swords

Well, I am apparently having a very Swords week so far. I will be back later to talk about this card.

Later- okay, I am back. Not too long ago, I read The Third Jesus by Deepak Chopra. There was a passage in the book extolling the message Jesus gave about "resist not evil". The basic concept, as I understood it, was that we are not to fight the evil things that others sometimes do to us, because fighting is not love, and love is the only answer to the darkness of the world.

Now, I do not take this to mean that we should just let bad things happen to us, or other people, but rather that our energy should be placed on increasing the love in the world, not the hate. Even righteous anger does not always burn clean, and everyone who plays with fire eventually gets burned, innocent and not alike.

"Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only love can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." ~Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This card is from the Rumi Tarot by Nigel Jackson for Llewellyn.

  1. ok - here is a recipe that most everyone loves (all ages!) - deceptively simple but also potentially addictive!
    Black Bean Corntillas
1-2 cans black beans, depending on how many ppl or how much you love leftovers!
    corn tortillas, your favorite brand
Extra sharp white cheddar cheese, grated
    clover sprouts
really good salsa, fresh is best, but whatever you love
    1. Drain and mash the beans - we use a hand-blender, (note - we also add onion powder and a bit of garlic powder to the beans for additional flavor.
    2. Spread a thin layer on each tortilla and place on a large cookie sheet, fitting as many as you can without overlapping too much.
    3. Sprinkle with the grated cheese
    4. Bake in a 350 degree oven just until the cheese melts
5.Remove and spoon a line of salsa down the middle of each tortilla
    6. Cover with a nice mound of clover sprouts and fold in half like a taco - enjoy!
We always make spanish rice with these and let them drip (they are kind of messy, but worth it) over the rice on our plates as we eat. A no-brainer recipe for that is to take some cooked/hot (we use brown) rice and stir in some jarred salsa, and some frozen peas for color.

Really, these are so easy, and affordable! When I was a vegetarian, I could always count on my meat-eating friends to love these, as well as kids!
